I absolutely love this series!! The exploration on each segment to notice information nearly ancestors has been fascinating and moving. I have no detail interest in celebrities, so I was pleased that each person featured comes across every bit a real person with no posturing or attempt to entertain. I besides appreciate the brief explanations of historical dympnamics that requite significant and depth to the stories that are uncovered. In that way, the show is educational as well as engaging. I merely wish all of the seasons were available to purchase (at a reasonable price).

I am an amateur genealogist so this was a natural allure for me. I had seen some of the original version - British stars and their adventures into their histories - and was delighted to find out that Lisa Kudrow was producing an American Version!
All of the stars who participated find surprising and sometimes shocking discoveries in their families past. Not a surprise given the tumultuous history of our immature nation... from WITCH BURNINGS to SEGREGATION and ROYALTY... no one's historical discoveries can be called tiresome. It is obvious that they put a lot of research hours into the production of this show only the most delightful office is that the stars who are participating are as engaged equally you are in their discoveries... there is a little acting but that is probably natural, given the personalities participating. Simply it is obvious that they are so engaged in their discoveries set before them that their reactions are mostly natural and true.
A fun ride that makes you lot discover what you might discover in your own histories. I have had a smash discovering some of my ancestors' "antics" besides as their trials.
Nigh recommended! Now go watch SEASON 2 and the British series!!!

I am an amateur genealogist and I do love the United kingdom series because of the stories that unfold and the tips on genealogy work. A USA version is a great idea, I mean the format is already a proven success in the UK then it must exist a similarly skillful show for a USA version right? Incorrect. At that place are several issues in the United states of america production that make this version near unbearable to sentinel. This DVD has been taken straight (unedited) from the TV screenings, In a really frustrating trend that seems to be the norm in the USA producers feel that the viewers, having saturday through a commercial intermission, have forgotten what they saw earlier the intermission and need to re-picket half of what they just saw. Personally I don't call back americans have such a short attention span but about americans I know are academically oriented and then maybe the general population does forget what they but watched earlier a commercial break. And so there may be a reason for the constant re-visitations when shown on Television set, but on a DVD without commercials? It just gets plain frustrating and almost unwatchable. Furthermore, the abiding re-hashing of already seen footage means that a 45 minute show in reality only has near 30 minutes of original footage. Not good value for viewing or purchasing! Another annoying habit is to indirectly tell the viewers what is coming later on the commercial break simply endeavor and make information technology audio like a mystery. Case.. in i episode the narrator tells the viewers the star will head to the fields of France in search of a missing relative. What will she discover? Well duh, obviously the relative was killed in WW1 and so where'southward the mystery? In fact, why carp watching it when you know what she will notice.
And then in summary, information technology gets 2 stars for the few limited genealogical tips it presents just otherwise this evidence is poorly presented, low on original content and very frustrating to watch if you have any sort of half-decent memory.
